Toastmasters

Encourage your fourth or fifth grader to join Pietrini’s Toastmaster Club!  Your child will develop his or her confidence in public speaking and in leadership through a variety of speech activities.  Warm-up speaking activities include telling jokes, inspiring others, participating in round of Table Topics where participants practice answering questions posed by their  friends. Some of the activities develop impromptu speaking skills, while other activities develop formal speaking skills. We even watch clips from Ted Talks to analyze the techniques used by the pros. Students will give between two and three formal speeches during the year.  Our culminating activity is a persuasive speech contest!

Daneshka Carpio, winner of the 2018 speech contest, reflected on her experience in Toastmasters. “It was great to try something new. I enjoyed it, and it helps kids get over their fear of talking in front of people or just being on stage.”
